Health, Safety & Animal Welfare

Pettigroom follows guidelines laid down by the Animal Welfare Act 2006, this is to ensure your dog doesn’t suffer distress or discomfort during the grooming process. We will keep your dogs safe and secure, offering any breaks if necessary. If you own a senior dog or a dog that has any long-term health conditions, we ask that someone is easily available to help if needed. All our grooms will include a basic health check for your dog (ears, eyes, teeth, skin, paws. lumps and bumps), however, all owners must inform us during the check-in consultation of pre-existing health conditions, allergies or skin conditions before the groom. Please make sure to give accurate information if your dog has recently suffered from fleas, ticks, other parasites and symptoms of kennel cough. If there is anything which may affect your pet’s health or our ability to go ahead with the groom, we will tell you immediately in which we may advise a consultation with a vet. It is very important that you make us aware of any behavioural issues which may affect our ability to groom your dog. To keep both the groomer and your dog safe we reserve the right to use a muzzle or other restraints. However, for safety, we will not groom dogs that are openly aggressive. If any mishap occurs during grooming, as a result of part/ non-disclosure of health or behavioural issues, then we cannot be made liable.

De-matting Policy

Matting can be painful, especially if heavy matting has occurred. Matts can leave damage the skin, lead to sores, infections and inflammation of the skin. Smaller matts can usually be brushed out, however, at Pettigroom we have a 15-minute de-matting policy. If areas take longer than this or if they are in a sensitive area, e.g. between the legs, we will clip them off instead. If the dog’s coat is matted all over, we may have to clip it off completely as this is in the best interest of the dog's health and comfort. We ensure that clipping off is the last resort and may mean that your dog's style is different to what you may be used to. There is a chance that it could reveal patches of redness as a result of the matted fur and the clipping needed to remove it. Clipping off your dog may result in a temporary behaviour reaction, some dogs may appear quieter than normal, overexcited or perhaps itchy. Your consent will be asked for before we go ahead with any clip off of larger matts and additional matting charges discussed prior.

Services & Charges
At Pettigroom, we aim to groom your dog to meet your full expectations, however, we cannot always guarantee this. The end result does depend on a range of factors such as coat length, condition and the behaviour of the dog. The final cost of a groom will be based on the coat, the coat's condition, the size of the dog and any additional individual needs. We reserve the right to charge extra to groom a dog that is matted, excessively dirty, or difficult to groom, this is to cover the costs of additional shampoo or products used, the extra time it may require, and any damage to blades. If a groom has to be stopped due to reasons such as aggression, health issues etc. we reserve the right to charge the full fee of the groom. As a mobile service, we groom a set amount of dogs a day and work within the Ribble Valley and close by Districts. We can groom further afield we may need to charge a surcharge to cover the additional mileage. Full payment is due on completion of the groom, we accept cash or bank transfer (sorry, but we do not accept cards).

Flea & Parasite Policy

All our clients must be up to date with their flea treatments. As a mobile service, we are unable to groom any dogs that have fleas, this is due to the time of fumigation needed in between grooms, which we simply do not have with grooms booked in back to back each day. If your dog has fleas, you must inform us and rebook back in with us when they are flea free. If fleas are found on your dog during the consultation we have the right to refuse the groom of your dog and charge £20 to cover the cost of time wasted.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations can hit us hard as we groom no more than 4 dogs each day, so please give us a minimum of 48 hours notice to cancel or change your appointment. We will contact you to reconfirm your appointment 48 hours beforehand and will travel to those only who reconfirm. Any cancellations received within 48 hours of an appointment or after you have reconfirmed will then incur a £20 cancellation fee. Any cancellations made at the door will be charged in full. Any cancellation charges must be paid in full before we can rebook a future groom.
